1-Year Pattern Making

1-Year Pattern Making

Becoming a Patternmaker

A creative spirit and technical skills, great accuracy and meticulousness. But also organisational qualities and the ability to know how to interpret things: this is the profile of a patternmaker, whose professional relevance within the fashion system is key to the system itself. Why is the professional role of patternmaker unique and highly specialised? Because it has a strategic part to play in making real the clothes devised by the stylist during the creation of a paper pattern. Without the patternmaker, there would be no ready-to-wear fashion (without the patternmaker, the term prêt-à-porter would have never existed).

How to develop a paper pattern supporting the interpretive line of the stylist, to direct the creation of a prototype, to guarantee the reproducibility of an item of clothing within a collection? This is what you will learn on our one-year course in patternmaking, having the unique opportunity to learn from an exceptional tutor: Professor Gianni Marangoni, son of the famous patternmaker, creator of the Marangoni method in 1935, who supported his father for many years during his patternmaking consultancy, building up an extremely rich technical and personal expertise.

Aims of the course

The one-year post-graduate course aims to teach students to understand the process, which leads from the concept of an item of clothing by the stylist to its creation and reproducibility within a collection, encouraging the learning of technical skills and the ability to know how to interpret and create at the same time.

The one-year course, which lasts 560 hours, is aimed at training young fashion professionals to confront and create every type of pattern, from sartorial to industrial, developing cuts and expanding the various bases with the right fit.

The aim of the course is also to bring to the classroom all the experience and training of Professor Gianni Marangoni, to offer students a range of advanced skills to develop highly specialised professionals and technicians able to put forward innovative ideas.

By the end of the course, the student will be ready to go into a Made in Italy or international fashion company, but also to continue his or her specialised course of study in the field of fashion.

Our ideal candidate

The course is open to all students with A levels or equivalent qualifications, who want to learn patternmaking and assimilate the ability to interpret correctly the evolution of the line, proportions and volumes using the famous Marangoni method.
